Controllable and Adaptable Lateral Support System
The goal of this project was to develop a lateral support system (LLS) that is remotely operable, maintains launcher alignment, protects the launcher and payload from shock and vibration inputs while it is stowed within a missile tube environment, and is able to actively adjust to and react to dynamic shock and vibration events. An electromechanically actuated linear toggle mechanism with a magnetorheological grease (MRG) damper and elastomeric pad were utilized to provide self–aligning and controllable energy absorption capabilities.
