An Ultra-High Carbon Steel Bonded Tungsten Carbide Material for Armor Piercing Rounds
The goal of this effort was to demonstrate the feasibility of an innovative tungsten carbide (WC) metal matrix composite for use as a non-carcinogenic penetrator for small arms armor piercing rounds. AMAD successfully developed the first reported fully dense steel matrix tungsten carbide material resulting in a provisional patent. AMAD is seeking further funding to refine the properties and scale up the processing for commercial use in armor piercing round penetrators and tooling.
